Rooms to Build A Dream On {living etc. + marie claire idees + creative home + better homes & gardens}

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

SWOON! I love every nook and cranny of these photos. I am a sucker for color and pattern as you all know, so these spaces really do speak to my kind of style. It never ceases to amaze me how with just some creativity with the color wheel and playing around with patterns and textures, how those two elements alone can transform a dull room to something quite spectacular! Living Etc, Creative Home, Better Homes & Gardens, and Marie Claire Idees are my favorite print design/creative living mags (of the few that are left that is..lol). I can always count on them for some great color inspiration. Here are a few of my favorite picks from their last issues. I also love Martha Stewart Living of course, however I find myself not buying it as much as I feel “my creative ideas” would not feel as original, but just a subconscious remake of what I have seen in the mag. Did that make any sense? I think you all know what I mean.

Berries & Cream

Happy Monday Everybody! I sure do hope that everyone had a wonderful valentines, love, friendship day weekend? My weekend went pretty well, and I think I got a lot of goals accomplished…aaw goal accomplishments..makes ya feel good! Nevertheless, I wanted to address a topic that I have been thinking about as each one of my favorite magazines fold under. One magazine that I really do miss is Adorn. Do you guys remember that mag. I loved it because it was filled with creative people and photography and the small size made it easy to carry around. Nevertheless I was heartbroken to see it go so early, then came Blueprint, and now Domino! Ugh!

I hear a lot of people asking and saying…”well, what will we read now?”. I think as a design blogger myself that blogs and the web in general is going to be the next form of our beloved “magazines”. With the economy dropping beneath the waistline and the advertisers following closely behind them, I think that it is important for traditional news and media genres to rethink their strategy and to look towards the web for growth. Yet, I do feel at a loss with being able to flip through creative pages. I always think that maybe it would be more feasible for mags to just done some sort of annual/collectors issue. Wouldn’t that be great to have a mega Domino collectors edition that’s only printed once a year!

Anyhow, I myself am looking forward to the transitions that will be made within the design media, as I know it will happen & to all my fellow design blogger, I think you are all wonderful. The beauty of blogging is that we all have our own voice and style, even when we post about the same topic. Kudos to all of us!

What magazines have folded that you were heartbroken over?

Magazine Inspiration {martha stewart & inside out}

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

I love magazines, I think they are like monthly treats of eye candy and inspiration. They really can make you feel special and offer up some wonderful dreams and ideas. So I recently scooped up the Christmas Issues of both Martha Stewart Living and Inside-Out(which I totally love). I recommend both issues to all of those who do not subscribe to or who have not picked a copy yet. They are filled with so many wonderful images and recipes and cute little gift ideas. I mean we all know that Marthas team will offer up some tantalizing ideas right? Anyhow, here are a few of my favorite images from them both! Unfortunately I will not be using any of these ideas this year, as the holidays just sort of sneaked upon me, but I made sure to grab them to hopefully pre-plan my festivities for next year! Hope these inspire!

Rooms to Build a Dream On {ty pennington}

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

These rooms from last months issue of Ty Pennington At Home caught my eye while browsing the glossies at the local market. While I would probably never actually decorate my own room in yellow and lime green, I do think the color combo is fantastic, especially with the accents of black and white. It’s very fresh and cozy, and I really like the blue with the black and white in the room at the bottom.

Inspiration Sweden {skona hem}

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

I am in awe of these rooms from Swedish design magazine skona hem. The colors are simply fantastic. I like lots of color and eclectic patterns, and it is so inspiring to see them both used so beautifully! I love it!
