Portfolio Review {gemma comas}

Gemma Comas

It is always inspirational to find rooms to be inspired by as we flip through our design magazines and scroll along blog rolls and devour in a healthy dose of design, but what inspires me the most, and what really brings the decorative elements alive is the photography. It is not such a simple task to capture the essence and personality of a room, while keeping in mind the lighting, shadows, mid tones, cropping, and such. So I always like to browse the portfolios of interior stylists and photographers to find inspiration in lighting and placement. This brings me to these images taken by PhotographerGemma Comas. I love the essence of these rooms, especially the bedroom with the high white tufted headboard! I think she did a great job at capturing the beauty as well as the elements that makes these rooms so lovely! Oh, and I love the second photo with the painted white floor boards! It’s such a great balance of classic..modern, and rustic style!

Ken Fulk Design

I wanted to highlight these rooms by San Francisco based Designer Ken Fulk. I think that they are absolutely beautiful each in their own way. Some of them seem to be set to lighting, whether it is natural or artificial, the lighting that is used in these rooms really make a difference on the ambiance and design. I also love how Ken uses color and the way that it plays off of the lighting that is in each room. Like the kitchen in the bottom left hand corner for instance: the warm yellow lighting up the deep woods, grays, and cherry reds are divine!

There’s just something about these little tea cup lanterns from Domestic Construction that I can’t help but to find a bit kitschy and charming. I think they’re cute!

A Room to Build A Dream On {musa design}

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

The lighting, the chairs, the clean lines, that archway, the floors, the table, the color…I love it all(except the pictures on the wall…LOL). I am usually one partial to bright and eclectic colors but I also love crisp clean modern palettes. That chandelier is fantastic. I have seen them before, but it looks extra nice in this room designed by Musa Design! I believe this lighting fixture is by designer Ingo Maurer but I can’t be sure. I like a few of his designs that are light and airy with a touch of futuristic elements! Nevertheless, I am sure you could easily make this on your own without paying the designer price tag over at Unica Home! This could also make a nice fixture without the lighting and just as a mobile!

Tracy Glover {objects & lighting}

Artisan Tracy Glover works in glass and based out of Cranston Rhode Island. Her hand-blown pieces are filled with so much light, color, and patterns that I am sure would bounce light off and around her pieces. My favorite would have to be the decorative knobs and I bet they would look superb if used on a light washed rustic style desk…a little modern…with a little bit of the new, you know? Anyhow, I am captivated by the color spectrums that she uses in her designs, aren’t you?
