Lisa Cohen

One day I imagine that I will have a bungalow style home with an open floor plan and a lovely mix of cool, rich, and earthy colors. My kitchen would be grand, not in size, but in personality and I would fill it with homemade goodness and decadent aromas, but until then all I can do is post pretty photos of the things that I love. The photographs of Photographer Lisa Cohen reminds me of my dream home and the food that would accompany it! As you all know I find great inspiration in those who photograph a home. Trying to capture the essence of your home in a photograph can be challenging at times. I feel that interior photographers especially make the rooms come alive.

Portfolio Review {haynes roberts inc.}

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

I adore these rooms from Haynes Roberts Inc. I think the library in whites, creams, blacks, and greys are beautiful! The pendant lighting in the second photo is delightful and that bathroom is fantastic…you could practically set up an office in there:). I would love to have a bath space like this one!

What a grand kitchen! A lovely and subtle mix of styling. I am loving all white kitchens more and more because it just gives a fresh clean feeling that inspires cooking and is the perfect backdrop to colorful dishes! I really like the old tin cans and containers that usually have labels of “flour”. “biscuits”, “sugar” and such…usually white with black letters. I also really like the streamline design of the bunk beds in the last photo. Anyhow, while a bit different from my personal style, I think all of these rooms are great!

Oh! I LOVE this room on Kips Bay which is designed by Drake Design Associates(Jamie Drake). Pinks, plums, whites, blacks, & lilacs and lavenders. It’s all so very pretty, and how about that closet! Drool…I wouldn’t know what to so with myself with a dressing room such as this!

Portfolio Review {annie schlechter}

I simply loved the photography of the talented Annie Schlechter. Here are my favorite interior shots from her portfolio. She does great work and I am also quite fond of her culinary photography!

Aren’t those cupcake lights adorable. I am quite tempted to to do that in my kitchen at least once & I love the rustic dining table paired with the crisp modern chairs.

Briger + Briger {lovely kitchen}

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

My favorite part of this kitchen designed by Briger + Briger is the pantry! I would LOVE to have a pantry like this with all of my entertaining gems organized in such a way! Wouldn’t it be great to have a closet/room dedicated to nothing but entertaining decor like napkins, tea towels, mugs, wine glasses, name plates, center pieces, candles, and such! The stack of cookbooks, china, and tea sets are nice and I love the ladder for the hard to reach items!

Kathryn Ireland {textile abode}

Kathryn Ireland

I ran across these gorgeous images of Textile Designer Kathryn Irelands California home from House Beautiful. I love everything about this abode! the rustic furniture, and the mix of color and pattern that makes me think of Mexico, Africa, & east India. But, hey, what more could you expect from the home of a textile designer! The first bedroom and office setting is just divine..and I would simply love to be gently awaken by the glowing sun basking through the windows! Oh my..what a lovely place wouldn’t you say? Our living room walls are a rich Caribbean blue and these images gives me so much color inspiration to lean on. Now I want to go & seek out some fabulous textiles, and buy a dozen red roses & a pretty white vase! Lovely!

Kathryn Ireland

I am always a fan of colorful tones and I think the cool rich turquoise paired with the deep reds and tangerines are perfect, and the textiles in her home are fabulous(of course) pieces of art. I love to decorate little vignettes with textiles, like a stack of old vintage quilts or sheets, or folded remnants of culturally inspired fabrics. In my eyes, it is all art!

Twist

If you are ever in the Philadelphia area, then be sure to stop by Twist, a lovely home decor boutique that carries some great items and some fabulous furniture(many are designed and restored by Interior Designer & Co-Owner Sharne Algotsson. Sharne began her training in Stockholm, Sweden, where she rose to the positions of head decorator, visual merchandising manager, and set designer for the international IKEA catalog before starting her own design firm. She is also the author of “City Living”, “African Style”, and co-author of “Spirit of African Design”. I highly recommend all three of these books, and the latter two(which I also own) are chock full of African textile patterns, colors, inspiration and history. A great addition to any textile & pattern library.

Funky Little Darlings (wall inspiration)

Funky Little Darlings

Funky Little Darlings is a cute wallpaper and mural company out of the UK that specializes in childrens murals and prints, but they also have something jazzy for us grown ups over at Colliss & Quinton! I love their patterns and colors in both their children and adult collections. The Colliss & Quinton rooms that are featured below make me think of a fantastic mood board or collage of textiles and patterns…I love it & would love to see more collage effects as wall treatments! It would be great to experiment with depths of layers, patterns, and textures when we think of adorning our walls!

Jeffers Design Group

Oh my gosh, you know when you see a room that is just filled with color, personality, style, balance, lighting, and amazing decorative elements, that you feel like you might just have a design aneurysm? Ok, so maybe that’s just me…LOL, but this is how I felt as I scrolled through the Jeffers Design Group portfolio! Oh! I think these rooms are absolutely phenomenal. I think what makes me love them so much is the attention to detail and the way that all of the different shades and tones of color are put together so eloquently and play together so well, and the texture & patterns..oh my!

I love the pop of green with the blacks, blues, magentas, and ivory! The pattern on the wall is actually quite nice with a lovely mix of floral.

This room at the top is filled with springy/summery sorbet tones. I wish I had those red side tables…they are gorgeous & the pink chaise lounge is fantastic too. I love the choice of fabric.

The blue credenza is divine! I love the orange juice pitcher(it makes me think of a flower vase). It’s all so wonderful!

Portfolio Review {gemma comas}

Gemma Comas

It is always inspirational to find rooms to be inspired by as we flip through our design magazines and scroll along blog rolls and devour in a healthy dose of design, but what inspires me the most, and what really brings the decorative elements alive is the photography. It is not such a simple task to capture the essence and personality of a room, while keeping in mind the lighting, shadows, mid tones, cropping, and such. So I always like to browse the portfolios of interior stylists and photographers to find inspiration in lighting and placement. This brings me to these images taken by PhotographerGemma Comas. I love the essence of these rooms, especially the bedroom with the high white tufted headboard! I think she did a great job at capturing the beauty as well as the elements that makes these rooms so lovely! Oh, and I love the second photo with the painted white floor boards! It’s such a great balance of classic..modern, and rustic style!

John Robshaw Textiles {printed inspiration}

John Robshaw Textiles

“Every textile represents a story, a drawing of an adventure in a far–off place–from Yogakarta to Rajasthan, Bolivia to Vietnam. Arriving at textiles from painting and printmaking, I am interested in the mistakes, overlapping prints and the miss-registrations of woodblocks that record the human hand.” -johnrobshaw.com

I have always been a big fan of many of the textile designs of John Robshaw, and these are some of my favorites from his Spring 08′ Collection.

Inspired Kitchen {open floor plan}

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

When we buy our first home, I am hoping that is filled with light and I definitely hope it has an open floor plan, especially in the kitchen. There is nothing worse than cooking up dinner behind a big wall, where you cannot see anything or be apart of the conversations of company. So, I hope that I have a wonderful kitchen that feels more like a living space than just a kitchen. With that said, I really like the amount of light and the open airy feel of these two island style kitchens from the website of Tara Dennis!

Marlborough Tiles {farm house inspiration}

Monday, July 14th, 2008

I cannot help but to think of a little farm house in England that is decorated with weathered wood, lots of white and natural tones of browns, greens, silver, and cherry reds; and I picture these pretty tiles in a country shabby chic kitchen with a deep white farmhouse sink, a long butcher block table with crackled off-white bar stools and floral cushions to rest the tush upon, a quaint chandelier lighting the above, and as I would snack on tea and blueberry scones while simmering a fresh pot of homemade minestrone soup, I would look around and say…Oh I have the best kitchen in the world…Aaah!

These tiles from Marlborough Tiles are so cute, & as you can see I can picture them in some great kitchens, from country to modern. If I had a home that had farmhouse design, I would definitely have these somewhere in the kitchen or pantry! Be sure to check them out, because they have lots of great tile designs to choose from!
