Melanie Acevedo {portfolio review}

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Brooklyn based Photographer Melanie Acevedo’s Interior & Lifestyle portfolio is quite lovely. I am sure many of you may recognize her work from editorials, including Elle Decor, Real Simple, and Domino spreads. That white canopy bed is so fantastic and the deep turquoise in that kitchen is divine…I heart turquoise of all shades!

Blue Bell Bazaar

Big thanks to Gosia Korsakowski for writing in to share her fabulous etsy shop called Blue Bell Bazaar! Many of you may already be familiar with her shop, yet it is totally new to me! It is filled with lots of vintage inspiration to adorn your living room, kitchen, dining room, bedroom, and all the living spaces in between and out! Her shop carries everything from vintage Scandinavian designs, old store signs, and laboratory and apothecary/pharmacy bottles, to modern china, tags, vases and so much more! I have picked out some of my favorite pieces below to share with you all. I really felt as though I was walking through a treasured flea market, and even had that “look what I found rush” when I spotted something that I liked, only it was online! Great finds, especially the vintage alphabet blocks that come in a set that spells out “Etsy”…so clever! Thanks Gosia for sharing your lovely treasures! Oh, and check out these 4th of July glasses signed by George Briard…just in time for a quaint 4th of July gathering!

The Dreamy Giraffe {inspiration illustrated}

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

OMG!!! I have found a new illustrator to add to my list of favorites. Illustrator Kathy R. Jeffords of The Dreamy Giraffe creates some of the most colorful, whimsical, and inspirational pieces! I just love them all. Each one of the portraits carry their own personality. here are a few of my favorites. Don’t you just love the hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil trio of fairies! Lovely! I have always loved art that incorporates inspirational words within it. These are all so fabulous that I don’t know which is my absolute favorite!

Bailey Doesn’t Bark {lovely porcelain}

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

I really like the style of designer Re Jin Lee aka RJ, of Bailey Doesn’t Bark. Her hand painted porcelain creations are so whimsical, and I really like her naming conventions of her pieces: Original Collection: where she uses her illustrative pen & ink style, SHHH Collection: “the shhh series comes from my fascination with the positions in which people manage to sleep in when completely knackered. I’ve decided to romanticize the act by drawing little birds in such positions.”, and the Doodle Collection: where obviously the designs are more sparatic. they are all so beautiful!

Les Indiennes Textiles {india inspired}

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

I really like the Indian inspired textile line of Les Indiennes by designer Mary Mulcahy. The color waves are rich, neutral, and simple, and carries a nice quiescent feel of India, and if you love to collect lovely photography of interiors and textiles then be sure to order yourself a copy of their 50 page “coffee table” catalog for only 10 bucks!

Argentina: La Boca {gotta get there}

Argentina: La Boca

Wow! The architecture and color that are nestled in what seems to be some of the prettiest landscapes around! Argentina is one place that I would love to visit if only for the architecture and food! My roommate from college is half Armenian and she took a trim there and said that it was quite lovely! Have any of you ever traveled to this part of the world? here are some of my favorite images…

La Boca: This little town of Buenos Aires is so charming and colorful! I bet you could find some fabulous things to bring back to the states after going here!

Exeter-Devon: Southwest England {gotta get there}

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

If you are ever in Southwest England, let’s say somewhere around Exeter (which is the capital city of Devon county & is home to the lovely Exeter Cathedral), then why not entertain your taste buds by stopping by La BoCa! I love the decor of this venue(it’s 4 stories with 4 different restaurants) and the menu consists of Authentic Moroccan cuisine such as cous-cous, dolci, chicken, lamb, and vegetarian tajines, flalafel, stuffed vine leaves, hummus, and so much more! I am getting hungry just thinking about it! Yum!

La BoCa: Exeter

“La BoCa consists of 4 floors where you can experience the exotic. You can share an authentic tajine, cooked in traditional terracotta pots & served to your table straight from the oven, as you dine in the sumptuous Hareem on mounds of cushions under beautiful silk awnings. No party is too big or small for the Latin Quarter Grill and private function room. From corporate meetings to private parties La BoCa will provide a unique experience in authentic surroundings that will make any gathering a memorable one. On the Ground floor there is El Hamra where you’ll feel like you have been transported to the heart of North Africa, with traditional belly dancing you will also be entertained whilst enjoying your meal. After you have finished your meal you can relax downstairs in Club Maroc with an exquisite Cocktail whilst listening to live Jazz, Flamenco guitar or resident dj’s. Run by the same team who brought you the ever popular Al Beb in Torquay you are sure to have a wonderful time, and look forward to your next visit with anticipation.”

Side Attraction 3

I love the imagery, products, and the philosophy of the Side Attraction 3 collection. Based out of South Africa, their pieces are rich in color and texture, embroidery, beads, leather, and tie dyeing; and to top it all off they outsource work to the local crafters in disadvantaged communities. A percentage of the proceeds of the sales are channeled back into the community! I scanned these images from their catalog that you can order for free (psst…they send you a nice little coupon along with it too!) I only wish that I had those “Blooming Pillows” The flowers are made from felt and the centers are crocheted!

A Room to Build A Dream On {musa design}

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

The lighting, the chairs, the clean lines, that archway, the floors, the table, the color…I love it all(except the pictures on the wall…LOL). I am usually one partial to bright and eclectic colors but I also love crisp clean modern palettes. That chandelier is fantastic. I have seen them before, but it looks extra nice in this room designed by Musa Design! I believe this lighting fixture is by designer Ingo Maurer but I can’t be sure. I like a few of his designs that are light and airy with a touch of futuristic elements! Nevertheless, I am sure you could easily make this on your own without paying the designer price tag over at Unica Home! This could also make a nice fixture without the lighting and just as a mobile!

Chess / Checker Table {diy}

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Finally! The first diy post! This diy project needs little to no direction. I made this chess/checker table using an old fold up table that was just laying around. All you have to do is take some paper in contrasting colors(here I used black paint for the dark squares and the lighter squares are pages from an old dictionary that I cut into squares. I tried to find words that related to the theme of the table. Then I just decopauged (fyi: I am totally addicted to decopauge) it along with some colorful tears from old magazines. That’s pretty much all to this project. This could be a fun & quick diy project for a kids room or maybe even a game room. I will be back with more soon including one on making paper bowls!

Eclectic, Country, Kitschy {in the kitchen}

Kahi Lee

This kitschy kitchen by Designer Kahi Lee has been one of my color inspirations for quite some time now. I remember first seeing this on HGTV, and I just fell in love with all of the eclectic and cheerful colors. The stenciled birds on the cabinets are too adorable & I love Kahi’s sense of fashion style as well!
